The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued a caution against IMEI tampering and misuse of telecommunication identifiers, emphasizing that such actions pose significant risks to citizen safety and network security. Under the Telecommunications Act, 2023, tampering with IMEI numbers or fraudulently obtaining Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) is a cognizable and non-bailable offence, punishable with imprisonment for up to three years and/or a fine of up to ₹50 lakh. Citizens are strongly advised to utilize the Sanchar Saathi Portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) or its mobile app to verify and secure their mobile connections and devices, and to refrain from activities like loaning SIM cards for potential misuse.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), under the Chairmanship of Shri Kishor Makwana, on August 31, 2026, directed immediate action for the arrest of accused persons within five days in connection with alleged derogatory remarks made by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Amrinder Singh Raja Warring against former Union Home Minister Late Shri Buta Singh in Tarn Taran, Punjab. The Commission expressed serious concern over delays in investigation and submission of the Action Taken Report, despite previous recommendations issued on May 5, 2026. Furthermore, the NCSC recommended immediate and adequate police protection for the petitioner, Shri Sarabjot Singh, son of Late Shri Buta Singh, and his dependents in both Delhi and Punjab, citing alleged continuing threats under Section 15A of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. An Action Taken Report on these recommendations has been sought within 30 days.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti is set to host the inaugural Departmental Summit on September 1-2, 2026, at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, as part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision for strengthening cooperative federalism and achieving "Viksit Bharat 2047." This two-day summit will focus on four key thematic pillars: timely implementation of water infrastructure projects, "Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari-Catch the Rain," source sustainability of drinking water systems, and operation and maintenance of rural drinking water supply schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. The initiative aims to foster closer Centre-State collaboration, share best practices, and agree on time-bound actions for improved governance and service delivery in the water sector. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is expected to provide guidance during the valedictory session.
