The President of India has appointed Dr. Dinesh Sharma as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with his tenure commencing from the date he assumes charge of the office. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) today, paying tribute to its founder Shri Ram ji and acknowledging the institution's 100-year legacy in shaping generations of students. The Prime Minister highlighted the college's evolution from a modest establishment to a towering educational institution, praising its alumni for their global contributions across various fields.

Outlining a bold vision for a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India), Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi expressed confidence that 140 crore Indians will collectively make the nation both developed and self-reliant. He articulated ambitious future milestones, including India becoming a manufacturing and research & innovation hub, an agriculture export superpower, establishing its own space station, and eventually hosting the Olympic Games.

The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, is scheduled to undertake a four-day visit to Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh from September 6 to 9, 2026. His itinerary includes attending the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Geetanagar College and the Convocation Ceremony of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) in Guwahati, Assam, on September 6. The Vice-President will also lay a foundation stone at Gauhati University, visit the INA Museum and War Memorial at Moirang in Manipur, and address a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Itanagar. This visit aims to engage in academic, cultural, and public programmes, besides visiting institutions of historical and national significance across the region.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah will chair the 28th meeting of the Western Zonal Council in Panaji, Goa, on Monday, September 7, 2026. This council, established under Sections 15 to 22 of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, comprises the States of Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The meeting will serve as a crucial platform for dialogue and discussion on inter-state and Centre-state issues, fostering cooperative federalism as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's 'TEAM BHARAT' initiative. Discussions are expected to cover broad national importance issues such as expediting investigations of crimes against women and children, implementation of Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs), and strengthening the cooperative system.

On September 5, 2026, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the 'CSS Shield' initiative by the Central Secretariat Service (CSS) Forum in New Delhi, aimed at providing collective financial support to bereaved families of CSS officers. The initiative seeks to provide at least ₹15 lakh to each bereaved family and plans to expand support to include scholarships for children, building upon the Forum's prior contributions of approximately ₹1.30 crore to 65-70 families since 2020. Dr. Singh emphasized the government's commitment to making service rules more responsive to employees and their families, presenting initial financial assistance to the families of late Shri Mohan Chandra Bhatt and late Shri Rajendra Chandra.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has sought a time-bound response regarding the alleged denial of reservation benefits to Scheduled Caste candidates in Punjab.
