He emphasized that strict adherence to these criteria will unlock countless global opportunities and preserve the core values of scale, scope, secure systems, democratization, and public trust.

The Ministry of Cooperation has restored the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal on September 08, 2026, to expedite the processing of claims for approximately 20 lakh remaining genuine depositors of Sahara Group cooperative societies. This initiative, guided by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahakar se Samriddhi’ under the leadership of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, aims to ensure secure, transparent, and online refunds into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts, in accordance with the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order dated March 29, 2023.

To date, a total of Rs 9,267 crore has been refunded to 41,56,711 depositors through the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal, covering claims from Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., Saharayn Universal Multipurpose Society Ltd., Humara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., and Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. The Ministry played a pivotal role in resolving administrative, financial, operational, and technology-related impediments that had affected the refund mechanism since November 2025.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, addressed the national-level celebration of International Literacy Day 2026 in New Delhi on September 8, 2026. He emphasized reimagining literacy and education as instruments of empowerment, creativity, dignity, and active citizenship, extending beyond basic reading and writing to encompass financial and digital literacy, under the theme "Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity."

During the International Literacy Day 2026 celebrations on September 8, 2026, Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, announced that the state has achieved a 95.6% literacy rate. This figure surpasses the Government of India’s benchmark for being declared a fully literate state, with the state government now committed to further reducing dropout rates within the next three to four years.

The President of India has appointed Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, the current Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, to temporarily discharge the functions of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to his own duties. This arrangement is effective during the absence on leave of the incumbent Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, as announced on September 8, 2026.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has issued a notice to the Punjab Government concerning the death of Gulzar Singh, a resident of Sangrur district, who reportedly consumed poison after raising concerns about narcotics and making allegations against a Minister and village panchayat members. Exercising its powers under Article 338 of the Constitution, the NCSC has directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Punjab, to submit a detailed report within five days. NCSC Chairman Shri Kishor Makwana, who described the incident as extremely serious, will visit Sangrur on September 10, 2026, to investigate the matter further.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) hosted a workshop on "Data Harmonisation for Use of Administrative Data in Data Driven Governance" in New Delhi on September 08, 2026, bringing together Statistical Advisers and Chief Data Officers from various Central Government Ministries. During the event, Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister, Shri Shaktikanta Das, launched the Quarterly Progress Report (QPR) portal on Data Harmonisation, a platform designed to track progress in making administrative data AI-ready and interoperable. The workshop underscored the importance of trusted, timely, and harmonised data for evidence-based policymaking and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with officials emphasizing the need for an integrated, government-wide data ecosystem.
